Phish wants to retain ownership of their art. Once works are placed in the public domain, generally ownership rights to the material are depleted and/or nullified.

Phish's lawyers apparently(from their response when requested permission) believe that placing phish on archive.org puts it in the public domain... possibly it does,

It's a lawyer thing...and Phish has let their music circulate freely since before the internet existed so it's not as if they are being selfish by seeking to protect their ownership rights.

If you are looking for a particular phish show, try a search on google for a term like this:

ph1999-02-31.shn

or for just finding phish shows try

phish + shn

as a search term.
Let me know when that well runs dry. :)

or try the yahoogroups dankseeds group, dedicated to certifying the BEST seed for any given show..a little slow during the summer but a good resource... and they have lots of phish certified... including a nice copy of the super - rare 'WOW Hall' show in Eugene ...

in fact maybe do a search for phish.dnk or phish + dank

Check out http://sinapse.arc2.ucla.edu/streaming/smegs/wm.lossless/

There are some Phish shows there, among other things. They are in Windows Media Lossless, which I have no experience with, and be sure to use an FTP Client because the server is unreliable, but it's a resource, anyway!

Let me know how you make out, I just found it and haven't taken a full show from there yet

yep, so that bootleggers and nazis don't join...
it's brand new, it's a more casual setting than an open forum. talking about stuff there won't jeopardise archive.org, so if you have a music-related issue that's a litlle on the fringe, thats a good place. phish is a good example, it can't be hosted on archive.org, and archive.org isn't a suitable place to begin offering postal trades etc. that group above is tiny, anda goodplace for newbies and oldbies alike to get together in a smaller less hectic setting than the etree lists, and no waste of bandwidth penalties, no list nazis. Only rule is no jerks, no money, no spam.
